Broken Promises. Shrinking Paychecks. No Accountability.
What USAN / UFS / UNITY2023 (Now The Coalition 2025) Have Done to the Rank-and-File Members
We are now an AMPTP/Producer/Employer-controlled union. One of the most prominent supporters of these controlling factions is Tom Hanks—an employer and AMPTP member through his company, PLAYTONE. Hanks continues to profit from streaming residuals that we do not receive, and for over a decade, he benefitted from not paying proper contributions to our Pension & Health (P&H) plans.
The Impact on Members:
- Healthcare and Pension benefits are now nearly impossible to attain.
- Members are being deliberately misclassified—series regulars downgraded to “recurring,” and dayplayers and guest stars reclassified improperly—all to reduce costs and increase profits for producers.
- Per diem is often unpaid or withheld—if offered at all.
- A-listers gained broader “hold” flexibility in the last contract, allowing them to take commercial and rank-and-file work—further squeezing opportunities for working-class members.
- (Example: Jason Momoa now frequently appears in commercials.)
- Streaming residuals for rank-and-file members remain anemic and unaccounted for.
- Two years later, there is still no formula or transparency for the so-called “Streaming Bonus.”
- The restoration of senior members’ residuals toward healthcare eligibility remains unfulfilled.
- Background actors continue to see minimal gains, with no meaningful improvements in compensation or protections.
- AI protections are virtually useless—members who refuse to be scanned are often punished with lost bookings or job cancellations.
